About Mississippi Physician Health Program

The Mississippi Physician Health Program or MPHP is located in Ridgeland, Mississippi. Formerly known as the Impaired Professionals Program, it was established in 1978 as a nonprofit with the mission to treat physicians with substance use and co occurring mental health disorders.

Physicians pay for the program at their own expense. In return, they receive MPHP advocacy, which often helps clients avoid disciplinary action. Additional funding resources include participant dues, the state medical society, malpractice insurance companies, and charitable contributions.

Confidential Addiction Treatment for Medical Professionals

MPHP is located in Ridgeland, conveniently close to I-55. Ridgeland is known for its vibrant community events, history, heritage, and arts scene. The Natchez Trace Chisha Foka Multi Use Trail is about five miles from the facility and features a wide paved walking trail and beautiful wooded areas supportive of physical activities and healing.

The center is for physicians including MDs and DOs as well as physician assistants, residents, and medical students. The program provides intervention and recovery programs to ensure medical personnel are offering safe and effective healthcare to the public. I think clients can appreciate the confidential services and advocacy on their behalf to protect their careers while also protecting the patients they serve.

Monitoring Cognitive Decline

Notably, the program offers help to more than just treatment professionals with substance use issues. They also help clinicians with other conditions that can impair their judgment and ability to work. These include psychiatric illnesses and cognitive decline. Like addiction treatment, this offers physicians confidential care and advocacy that protects themselves and their patients. I appreciate that this type of program allows medical professionals to get the care they need without fearing the stigma that can be associated with these conditions.

Clients engage in addiction related education with topics such as professionalism and prescribing controlled substances. The organization also hosts annual events such as Prescriber Summits and the Caduceus Club Retreat and Family Conference.
