About Mirasol – Closed
Mirasol may have closed its doors in 2021, but the facility in Tucson, Arizona has left its lasting impression on the eating disorder treatment world with a legacy of success and innovative therapies and philosophies that are now implemented in programs around the world. Mirasol treated not only eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia and compulsive eating but also helped with co existing mental illnesses and conditions including addiction and substance abuse issues.
Traditional Therapies for Eating Disorders and Addiction
Their program took the best of evidence based treatments such as cognitive and dialectical behavior therapy and motivational goal oriented treatments with dieticians, physicians, psychiatrists and other medical professionals. They then added the best of holistic and alternative therapies to be able to provide the best care and be able to connect and reach every person who came to them for help.
Innovative and Expressive Therapies
This treatment center also offered a variety of expressive and experiential therapies. This may involve art, music and other creative therapies, eco therapy or equine therapy. We also found that yoga, meditation and Reiki were also effective parts of their treatment program.
Tension and trauma release exercises were also offered. This unique therapy involves a set of simple exercises and muscle contractions that help one to physically and mentally relieve stress, tension, and trauma. Polarity therapy included TRE and an energy based regimen that incorporated diet, exercise, meditation, bodywork, and mind exercises meant to dissipate the energy in the body in a healthy and positive way in relation to its own electromagnetic force and that of the universe.
More Than Eating Disorders
Somatic therapy was introduced to clients very early in their treatment journey. This was to help individuals learn how to facilitate emotional stabilization. This was particularly successful for those who are struggling with PTSD or trauma related emotional and physical pain. Trauma is often a large player in substance abuse too so we appreciate that this could help with addiction as well.
Though they are no longer in operation, their website is still available as a reliable and helpful resource for those wanting to learn more about the Mirasol Method and the many therapies it involves.
