About McDowell Center for Children

McDowell Center for Children is located in Dyersburg, Tennessee. It’s a residential treatment center with 28 beds that helps adolescent males who are struggling with mental or behavioral health issues and or substance abuse. They provide 24/7 support from licensed psychiatrists, therapists, nurses, and counselors.

Mental Health Program

Their mental health program is for males whose situation can’t be managed at home or in a regular inpatient environment. It’s designed to be long term care for people with severe anxiety or depression, trauma, ADD, sexually reactive behavior, or self harm issues.

You can also get help here if you’ve experienced a significant life change, abandonment, or loss. I’m impressed that they’re especially interested in helping people who were in or currently in the foster care system.

Substance Abuse Program

Their substance abuse program is for those who have co occurring issues of substance abuse combined with mental illness. They provide addiction education and support groups.

Along with this program they have a unique dual diagnosis program that specializes in mental health problems and have been diagnosed with an intellectual disability.

What I really like about this residential treatment facility is their program focused on mental health and intellectual disabilities.
