About McCall Center for Behavioral Health Hanson House

Serving Connecticut for over 50 years, the McCall Center for Behavioral Health in Torrington, Connecticut operates Hanson House, an intimate and compassionate residential treatment program for women aged 18 and older. Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) accredited, clients at this seven bed facility have an average stay of four months. No one will be denied access to care due to an inability to pay.

Hanson House

With its 24/7 staff, I appreciate that Hanson House puts a special focus on the role of relationships as part of the recovery journey. It’s a child friendly space to foster regular family visits, and family participation is encouraged to create an atmosphere of understanding and wellness. Each client receives a psychiatric evaluation and any necessary medication management, combined with 20 hours of clinical support each week. Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) is available.

Treatment Modalities

I found that they offer trauma informed and gender responsive care through such modalities as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and an introduction to the 12 step model. There are dual diagnosis groups to help you understand the role of psychiatric illness in addiction. Alternative therapies are also provided, such as adventure based counseling and music therapy. All of this is paired with comprehensive drug and alcohol education and self help groups.

Client Feedback

Clients say that the staff offers help, compassion and encouragement, and that they seem to sincerely care about their patients. They say they’ve found self acceptance and the value of a life in recovery. They note that hearing other women talk about their experiences has shown them that they’re not alone.
