Addiction and Mental Health Treatment in Summerville

Summerville’s Paradise Garden was the home of noted preacher-turned folk and visionary artist Howard Finster and still exists today as a monument to his art. The garden is less than two miles from the treatment center and is open every day except Monday.

The adult addiction treatment services at the Summerville facility include individual, group, and family therapy. Clients participate in educational programs as well.

The intensive outpatient program (IOP) works with local social service agencies and law enforcement to ensure the most at risk clients get care. The program focuses on the traditional 12 Step model of recovery and emphasizes personal responsibility.

Addictive disease services include programs for children and teens. The services are comprehensive, and I like that they include emotional, physical, social, and spiritual components. The programs meet after school.

Specialized Services for Children and Adolescents

It’s nice that they offer so many services for children and adolescents that include therapy, home based treatment, psychosocial services, and foster care. I like how the programs help kids and their families resolve conflicts and have positive relationships and communication.

Some of the specialized services include the APEX program. I noticed this is a short term, intensive treatment in the school setting. The program is for kids with significant behavioral challenges that put them at risk of placement outside the home or hospitalization.

The TREK program recruits and trains individuals to help youths placed outside of their natural homes. Individuals foster kids while helping them achieve improved behavior, emotional stability, and better social interactions.

The facility operates a CARF-accredited program for clients with intellectual or developmental disabilities. The program assists clients in building confidence, productivity, and independence, as well as community integration.
