About Link House Newburyport

Link House is one of five residential recovery programs provided by Link House Inc to support men and women in their healing journey. This 20 bed facility provides highly structured residential treatment for men at the early stage of recovery in Newburyport, Manchester. It is the original program that birthed other residential services provided by Link House Inc. It therefore makes sense that they share the same name.

The facility is located in the heart of downtown Newburyport and is accessible by public transportation. They’re within walking distance of stores, hospital/medical offices, houses of worship and YWCA. This offers convenience regarding access to services not provided within the facility. Nearby Cashman Park and Merrimack River provide a calming space where you can connect with nature.

The facility itself is clean, modern and well-equipped. They offer double occupancy rooms, a shared kitchen and a living/community room. There’s also a laundry, shared restrooms and a computer lab. Food, bedding and toiletries are provided as well. You’ll share cleaning responsibilities with other residents.

The main aim of this program is to help you build routines, develop practical independent living skills and healthy habits that promote a sober lifestyle. This is achieved through intensive programming with 24/7 supervision and support by trained personnel. Most residents complete the program in six months. It could be longer though, depending on your individualized treatment plans.

You must contract to obey the house rules to be accepted. This includes abstaining from drug/alcohol or addictive behaviors and actively participating in all aspects of the treatment. You must also commit to attending the relevant 12 step or self help meetings daily. This makes sense since the program is rooted in 12 step practices like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous.

The first five months are pretty intense. You’ll focus exclusively on recovery. This involves a full daily schedule of onsite individual and group counseling. This is in addition to the 12 step meetings. You’ll also attend therapeutic, medical and legal appointments in the community as well. You’re encouraged to fully integrate into the area via community service. It’s not always all about intensive therapy and educational courses though. They also offer recreational outings and activities to make your recovery journey more exciting.

After the initial five months, you can seek employment. This enables you to earn income and save toward your next steps following completion of the program. The facility offers ongoing case management services to support your lasting recovery efforts. This may include connection to community resources like stable housing, job placement and educational opportunities. Your case manager may also refer you to local self help groups.
