About Lake County Behavioral Health Womens Residential Services

Lake County Behavioral Health Women’s Residential Services is a residential recovery program for women with substance use issues and dual diagnosis in Vernon Hills, Illinois. This program creates a path to recovery and renewal for women by addressing their varying complex needs. This is achieved through intensive recovery in a safe and structured space. It’s not just about recovery but empowerment towards a healthy lifestyle free from drugs or alcohol.

What we find specifically appealing is how they’re able to keep the program very accessible by accepting Medicaid and Medicare. They even offer discounted fees for qualifying patients. They strive to ensure no woman who knocks on their door is denied care due to her inability to pay.

If you’re an Illinois resident over 18 with a primary diagnosis of substance use disorder, this program could be the perfect start to your recovery journey. You must commit to fully participate in treatment, undergo screenings, and be capable of caring for yourself to enroll.

Recovery in Suburban Vernon Hills

The facility is situated in a suburban area in Lake County near the Des Plaines River. The area features business offices, retail stores and restaurants like Blufish Sushi Bistro, Real Urban BBQ and Portillo’s Hot Dogs. These eateries are right within the vicinity and can be helpful if you want to try some offsite meals.

The facility also boasts natural landscapes nearby where you can relax or enjoy some outdoor activities during recreational breaks. This includes the Half Day Forest Preserve 2.5 miles south and Independence Grove Forest Preserve to the north. These scenic nature spots offer walking trails and much more.

The area is well-served by public transport. Pace Bus has stops along Milwaukee Avenue. The facility is easily accessible via IL-21, IL-60, and IL-83. The I-94 corridor links the area to Chicago and Milwaukee.

Trauma-Informed Care & Wellness Education

The program involves various recovery focused intensive treatments. You’ll attend educational classes and therapy sessions focused on health, wellness and development of practical coping skills. Sessions are delivered in individual and group formats and may draw from evidence based practices like seeking safety.

A particularly important session here is the trauma-informed group. You can learn to better manage past trauma that might be fueling your substance use. The Seeking Safety model can help you regulate emotions without having to process past trauma in depth. This can immensely benefit those with dual diagnoses and individuals coping with grief or loss.

There is also a specialized group called Skills Training for Emotional Predictability and Problem Solving (STEPPS). You can learn how to manage intense emotions and improve your problem-solving abilities in everyday situations. Wellness education is an integral aspect of the broader program as evidenced by the Wellness Recovery Action Planning. This helps create a personalized plan to maintain wellness, prevent relapse, and manage mental health through coping strategies and self-care.

You’ll also attend relapse prevention classes to strengthen coping skills and anger management sessions to learn how to handle emotions in a healthy way. Various groups are available to help you build pro-social skills, address criminal patterns of thinking, and break free from unhealthy behavior. The program includes medical and psychiatric care and medication management.

Family-Oriented Recovery on All Levels

The program is family-oriented and emphasizes family involvement. They offer family education and counseling to rebuild relationships, improve communication, and promote positive family dynamics. They also allow child visits to support mom-to-child bonding so that the whole family can heal together. Children aged 5 to 11 can spend weekends onsite with their moms, while older kids can schedule visits up to four hours long.

Your length of stay in the residence is determined by ongoing assessment. You’ll be regularly assessed as you move forward in your recovery. Once you make significant progress, you’ll be ready to transition to independent living in the community. They may help you with finding a job, safe housing, and access to medical care via case management.
