About Merrimack Center JRI
The Justice Resource Institute Merrimack Center in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, offers addiction treatment for up to 15 young people between the ages of 13 and 18. Since it’s a locked residential treatment facility with a closed admissions process, clients must be referred for care. They assist teens with severe mental health challenges and behavioral disorders, including substance use disorders, but not those with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities.
Supportive School Setting Within Residential Care
Their residential programs are based on state hospital campuses but aren't part of the hospital itself. Young people live and go to school on site with access to fully accredited individualized education plans. I like that they also take part in daily activities with staff and other residents, both on campus and out in the community, helping them stay active and connected.
Therapy Dog Visits and Fun Outdoor Activities
Teens can have their own room and bring their stuff to make it feel more like home. Or, they can hang out in the common area and play games, do art or spend time with family when they visit. A therapy dog is around most days, and I’m impressed that there's opportunity for time spent outside hiking, biking, shooting hoops, or helping out in the garden. Off campus activities include movies, mall shopping, bowling, the beach in summer, or amusement parks.
Continued Care Through Outpatient Services
Once teens are ready to leave, they can keep getting support through outpatient care and home-based services. These programs help with staying on track after treatment. There’s also help with school and job prep to make sure they have a solid foundation. Families are involved too, with support to help everyone adjust and continue the recovery journey together.
Amenities
Private drug rehab provides a comfortable, secure environment that allows you to focus on doing the work to get your life back on track. Benefits include a higher staff-to-client ratio, increased one-on-one time with therapists and healthcare providers, private rooms for clients, and customized forms of therapy.
Residential drug rehab provides the comforts of home with the therapeutic support needed to successfully recover. Benefits of an inpatient program include increased safety, a higher success rate, and the time and distance given to focus on recovery. Residential drug rehabs are often the preferred method of treatment, as they can be tailored to meet specific needs, offer focused therapeutic care, and provide the necessary tools to sustain recovery.

Addiction therapists apply rational emotive behavioral therapy in Massachusetts to focus on the interconnectedness of behaviors, thoughts, and feelings. The aim of therapy is for these three things to work together to improve your quality of life rather than lead to dysfunction.
Levels of Care
As the most intensive treatment setting, inpatient drug rehab in Massachusetts treatment involves 24/7 supervised care. At this level of care, you typically participate in individual, group, and family therapy sessions, and you may receive medication and additional recreational therapies.
If you meet the diagnostic criteria for two or more conditions, you have a dual diagnosis. Massachusetts dual diagnosis treatment is designed to address both conditions simultaneously, for improved recovery outcomes.
In Massachusetts sober living, you will take on more responsibility than rehab treatment requires. You’ll pay rent and work or attend school. You’ll also contribute to household chores. The goal is to learn how to live independently, free from drugs and alcohol.
