About Howard Center Safe Recovery

Howard Center Safe Recovery is a unique substance abuse support option for those in Burlington, Vermont. It focuses on harm reduction strategies for any stage of recovery. The programs here can be used without appointment and in tandem with treatment, which is offered at other Howard Center Locations.

One aspect of this program I like is that the services are anonymous. You can visit this clinic without fear of judgment. I also appreciate that many of the programs here are offered for free.

Preventing the Spread of Diseases

Their syringe safety program accepts and safely disposes of used syringes and distributes clean needles for those still using them. This program is an effective way to limit the spread of blood borne diseases prevalent among those who inject drugs.

What I like about this service is that it includes hepatitis care. You can receive vaccination for hepatitis A/B and get tested for hepatitis C and HIV. The service also provides links to treatment programs.

Same Day Access to Buprenorphine

Buprenorphine is one of the FDA approved drugs used for combating opioid use disorder. It's commonly used in medication assisted treatment (MAT) programs, for example. It works by reducing or eliminating cravings and other withdrawal symptoms.

This location provides easy, same day access to this medication for those seeking relief from substance abuse. But the real strength of this program is the inclusion of wraparound services. Staff will help you connect with a treatment program and other support services so you can start on the path of recovery.

Find Support Among Peers

Safe Recovery also acts as a gateway to harm reduction peer support groups. Whether you're in recovery or not, these groups allow individuals to share their harm reduction strategies while providing help and encouragement to their peers. Peer support is a powerful component of recovery when paired with professional treatment.
