About Houston Wee Care Shelter Inc

Houston Wee Care is an emergency shelter that serves as a crisis intervention solution for children and youth that require relocation as a part of the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) in Spring, Texas. This is a short term solution program designed to fill residence gaps while children are waiting to be placed into long term foster care or to relocate with other relatives. This facility mainly works with youth who are facing abuse, neglect and unsafe home environments.

Spring is a suburban community in north Houston. This facility is near a variety of green spaces, including Pundt Park, Mercer Botanic Gardens and other local parks. It’s also near major medical and social services resources which may be necessary for minors requiring extended care.

A Temporary Solution with Treatment Referrals

I think it’s important to note that Houston Wee Care is not a formal substance use disorder (SUD) treatment facility. However, this doesn’t mean that they can’t provide referrals if an adolescent is brought here who is struggling with addiction. This is because crisis intervention is one of the core services provided and there may be children placed here who struggle with behavioral health conditions.

A Safe Space for Kids and Teens

Needing emergency shelter is scary for anyone but for children in particular, it can be a harrowing experience. Houston Wee Care is designed to provide a safe and secure residential environment that offers structure. Children receive essential care which includes housing, food, clothing, and supervision.

I appreciate that there are recreational spaces and communal areas on the premises. All staff employed here are trained in trauma informed care for minors too.
