About Hina Mauka / Teen Care Kalani High School

Hina Mauka Teen CARE at Kalani High School is a CARF accredited, school based outpatient program providing substance use disorder treatment for adolescents in Honolulu.

The program serves youth facing alcohol and opioid use disorders through comprehensive assessment, counseling, case management and family sessions.

Since 1987, I appreciate that Teen CARE has met teens where they are, delivering care right on campus to help young people build healthier futures.

School Based Teen Addiction Care

Teen CARE's core focus is youth substance use treatment offered directly at Kalani High School during school hours.

Each student receives a tailored treatment plan built around thorough assessment, one-on-one counseling, and family involvement to address the whole picture.

Sessions draw on approaches like motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy to help teens explore their motivations, build coping skills and address the root causes of substance use.

By coordinating with school staff, counselors can observe attendance, grades and behavior to support each student in their everyday environment.

Prevention and School Collaboration

Beyond treatment, Teen CARE blends prevention programming with hands on school collaboration to reach youth early.

Referrals can come from students themselves, peers, teachers and counselors, administrators or family members, reducing barriers to getting help.

Next Steps

This school based Teen CARE site serves the Honolulu school community at Kalani High School, operating Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with outpatient services available across the broader Oahu and Kauai network.

Teen CARE is CARF accredited and funded through Hawaii state agencies, including the Department of Health, CAMHD and the Judiciary.

I want to note that the program accepts insurance including Blue Cross Blue Shield and Kaiser Permanente.
