About Highland House Halfway House

Highland House is a long term residential facility for adult men at the early stage of recovery from substance use issues. This program is suitable if you’re seeking a structured setting that encourages personal growth and an independent lifestyle free from abusable substances. This means you must have completed detox and an initial inpatient program. Highland House is located in suburban New Castle, Pennsylvania.

The facility kind of sits right in New Castle’s North Hill District. This area is known for charming old homes and peaceful streets. And it really does resemble a castle, complete with a tower. It’s a chill location to stay keyed in your healing journey without distractions. Getting in and out isn’t a hassle because the location connects to major roads. The New Castle Area Transit Authority offers bus services that can get you super close to the facility.

Cascade Park and Neshannock Creek are about three miles away. This is a good place to relax and soak into nature during recreational periods while living onsite. Scottish Rite Cathedral and Historic Warner Cascade Theatre Museum are also great local attractions worth a visit.

Highland House creates a supportive space where men share their stories, build each other up and find hope together. It’s a six months residential program that can help you build character, accountability and personal responsibility. These are essential for independent living when you reenter the community. The program addresses many essential recovery issues like physical or sexual abuse, single parenting and lack of education.

You’ll attend therapy sessions, 12 Step meetings, and psychoeducational classes while onsite. Specialized relapse prevention and spirituality groups are available. Integrating spirituality into your recovery can help you find peace through connections to high power.

You’ll also receive life skills training where you may learn about handling finances, managing stress or anger and practicing relaxation techniques. Nutritional education, vocational assessment, and sign language education are all components of the program. Based on your vocational assessment, they may provide job training referral to better prepare you for employment upon reentry.

Medical and dental referral is provided when needed. They also offer continuing education opportunities and sexual assault/domestic violence awareness training. The beauty of this program is that you’ll enjoy the support of both peers in recovery and the caring staff who’re around 24/7 to guide you. You’re encouraged to network and share with each other to foster healthy relationships.

Active participation in all aspects of the program, including daily chores, is also encouraged to build character. They can help you with finding stable and affordable accommodation or provide referral services as you reenter the community. They also provide follow-up and aftercare support services.

Highland House accepts referrals from inpatient rehabilitation providers, the county drug and alcohol commission, and behavioral health managed care services.
