About Helix Human Services
Helix Human Services operates The Cottage Residential Program in Springfield, Massachusetts, which is a specialized mental health treatment program for boys ages six to thirteen. The program provides trauma informed residential care for children with moderate to severe emotional and behavioral challenges.
Services combine evidence based therapies with life skills development and individualized treatment planning. Families and referring professionals often value the supportive, therapeutic approach and the program’s focus on positive behavior development rather than punishment.
What Mental Health Programs Does The Cottage Offer?
The Cottage Residential Program provides 24 hour residential treatment that includes individual counseling, family therapy, dialectical behavior therapy skills groups and psychoeducational sessions. The clinical team uses evidence based methods such as dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing. I like that occupational therapy and clinical case management are also incorporated to address each child’s unique emotional, social and developmental needs.
Who Can Get Help at The Cottage?
The program serves boys between the ages of six and thirteen, who have experienced trauma and are facing moderate to severe mental health and behavioral concerns. Admission is based on referral from the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families. Each referral is reviewed through interviews and multidisciplinary team meetings to ensure the program is an appropriate fit.
I like that the program includes both on site and community based recreational activities as part of the overall therapeutic experience, supporting physical health, social development, and emotional regulation. The intake process helps determine whether the program aligns with the child’s treatment needs and long term goals.
