About Harwood House

Harwood House is a community based residential treatment program in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, serving adult men with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders.

The program, I've found, combines evidence based practices like Illness Management and Recovery (IMR), cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing with individual counseling, group work and life-skills development.

Harwood House is built on the belief that lasting recovery happens within a stable, substance-free community where men can actively rebuild their lives.

Men's Residential Recovery for Substance Use and Co-Occurring Disorders

Harwood House specializes in longer-term residential care for adult males, with typical stays ranging from three to six months.

The program integrates addiction education, relapse prevention, specialty groups, family sessions and conflict resolution to address both substance use and mental health together.

Clients, I've learned, participate in individual and group counseling grounded in evidence based approaches, including 12-step facilitation and anger management.

This community based model helps residents develop practical coping skills while bridging structured treatment and a healthy return to daily life.

Trauma-Informed and Whole-Person Care

Trauma is a specific focus at Harwood House through its Men's Trauma, Recovery and Empowerment Model (M-TREM) group.

The program also incorporates yoga, mindfulness practice, and health and nutrition education to support whole-person healing, along with weekly in-house psychiatric consults.
