About GRO Georgia Rehabilitation Outreach – Closed

GRO Georgia Rehabilitation Outreach was in the southwest corner of Atlanta, inside the 285 Beltway. They were in East Point, Georgia. The facility was just several miles north of the Atlanta International airport, with easy access in and out of the city. However, they have since closed.

Assertive Community Treatment Program

The outreach program had several options to support individuals with substance use disorder or abuse challenges. The Assertive Community Treatment Program (ACT) was a multidisciplinary team approach that addressed the needs of men and women with co-occurring mental health conditions and substance use disorders.

Individuals who qualified for this program met several criteria, including criminal arrests, untreated mental health conditions, homelessness, or frequent psychiatric hospital admissions. I saw that you could have received diagnostic assessments, medication management, employment assistance, and vocational training to support independent living.

Among the skills you learned were nutrition, housekeeping, business affairs, and budgeting. Other interventions include learning conflict resolution skills and training. The ACT teams were available 24/7/365 and offered unlimited mobile outreach services.

Community Housing and Residential Support

Another program that impressed me was community housing and residential support to help homeless individuals receive the mental health care needed to live independently. You were expected to pay some of the fees through employment, SSI, or VA benefits.

The housing was disability accessible and convenient to public transportation. They provided aftercare support, including 12-step programs like Alcoholics Anonymous, to help promote sustainable recovery.

Gender specific programs addressed the issues unique to men and women, and a young adult program focused on the special life transition needs of this age group. They accepted various forms of payment, including Medicare, Medicaid, and private health insurance.
