About Great Basin Counseling Services
Great Basin Counseling Services was based by the Louella Garvey House in Reno, Nevada, before closing in 2008. They combined substance use disorder counseling with all aspects of mental health support, including things like anger management and family therapy.
When they were opened, their staff only offered appointments from Wednesday to Friday during regular business hours. They worked with individuals, couples, and families. They also hosted supportive group sessions for people experiencing addiction and people with anger management concerns.
Smaller Outpatient Setting
One thing I noticed about the way Great Basin Counseling structured their services is that they leaned into the intimacy of a smaller suite-style outpatient setting. It made it possible for the team to tailor each service offering to the client’s experience.
Their outpatient hours were best suited to people further along in their recovery journey or wanting support with holistic behavioral health.
Anger Management as Part of Addiction Recovery
Anger management techniques and all the emotional regulation skills you’d learn in these classes can be directly helpful in addiction recovery. I saw that clients learned to keep themselves calm and in control of their actions even in the face of deeply frustrating or triggering circumstances.
Addiction Treatment Programs
When choosing an adult program in Nevada, individuals 18 and over can select inpatient, outpatient, or sober living programs. Varying in intensity, these programs all focus on treatment of addiction to drugs or alcohol.
A men’s rehab in Nevada provides gender-specific treatments, including peer support. These targeted efforts increase the long-term success of treatment.
Addiction and recovery affect women differently than men. Because women progress faster through recovery, experience more mental health problems, and face different barriers to treatment, a women’s rehab in Nevada is often the ideal solution for women facing addiction.
Levels of Care
For many, Nevada outpatient rehab is the next step after successfully completing an inpatient program. This less-restrictive treatment involves living at home and returning to life responsibilities while attending several treatment sessions each week. This continues for weeks or months, until you are ready to move to the next level of care.
When you choose Nevada dual diagnosis treatment, you’ll receive care from experts who specialize in each of your co-occurring disorders. This multidisciplinary approach effectively treats both your mental health and substance abuse disorders.
