About Grady Memorial Hospital

Grady Memorial Hospital is part of the Grady Health System, a healthcare network that provides behavioral health services along with primary care to people in Atlanta, Georgia. Along with substance use disorder (SUD) treatment, people can access healthcare through the Addiction Alliance of Georgia which works with primary care clinics. Being situated in Atlanta means that while you are recovering from addiction, you’ll also have access to a wealth of cultural activities, green spaces, museums, community resources, and entertainment.

Detox and Inpatient Support

I appreciate that the Grady Memorial Hospital offers a detox program referred to as the Medication for Alcohol and Opioid Treatment (MAOT) which can be accessed both on an inpatient and outpatient basis. This gives people an opportunity to focus on sobriety by reducing severe withdrawal symptoms. The inpatient program provides round the clock medical supervision which is often critical for people trying to detox from severe addiction.

Diverse Outpatient Programs

Once you successfully complete the inpatient program or even while you’re enrolled in the outpatient detox program, you can participate in Grady’s outpatient SUD services. This includes not just MAOT, but the partial hospitalization program (PHP), intensive outpatient program (IOP), and standard outpatient care. More importantly, the MAOT program is one of the few in the state that treats pregnant women.

These graduated systems are designed to range from very structured to more flexible based on the severity of your addiction and the amount of counseling and reinforcement you need to stabilize your condition and resist relapse during the critical initial stages. All programs include access to individual and group counseling, peer support, and case management.

Specialized Populations Served

I appreciate that Grady Health provides specialized care for pregnant and postpartum women, members of the LGBTQ+ community, people with a history of trauma, criminal justice clients (excluding court appointed DUI or DWI cases), and people with co-occurring mental health disorders. Grady Memorial Hospital accepts insurance, Medicaid and Medicare, and offers a sliding fee scale and payment assistance.
