About Louisiana Department of Health — Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery Services
Louisiana Department of Health, formerly Genex Services, now offers substance use disorder and addiction treatment along with numerous other services including medical behavioral care and community health for those who reside in the Lafayette, Louisiana area. This facility also offers a program for those with a gambling addiction.
Substance Use and Gambling Disorders
Both gambling and substance use can hurt you in many ways, such as relationships, careers, and financially. In addition to those, these disorders can change and affect how the brain works. Individuals might always be looking for a way to get the same feeling they got before, and risk more to achieve that high, whether it be a drug or gambling.
This can cause you to act irresponsibly, not realizing the consequences of your actions, until it is too late. The counselors here want to help you with that. They want to help you learn the coping skills that you need when you’re presented with those triggers.
Priority Populations
Priority is given to those who are pregnant and using injectable substances, then to pregnant women who are abusing any substance, then to those who use injectable drugs, then to everyone else. The goal is to make sure no one has to wait a long time to receive the immediate help they need. If they can’t get you into therapy within 48 hours, they will find an interim treatment to assist you.
Different Levels of Care
You will be assessed upon arrival to determine your level of need. Some clients will qualify for residential support, while some will be able to recover well with outpatient therapy.
No matter which level of care that you qualify for, you will receive both individual and group therapy, coping skill classes, and behavioral health classes to help you make the lifestyle changes needed to have a lifelong recovery.
