About Genesis Counseling Services

Located in downtown Framingham, Massachusetts, Genesis Counseling Services has been providing outpatient substance abuse treatment to the community for nearly 30 years. They strive to provide recovery services to all individuals regardless of their economic status. Some featured services at this facility include Project Parenting, DUI/multiple offender treatment, and the Managing Medication in Recovery program.

The facility has a substance abuse program for adults and adolescents. In the adult substance abuse program, clients participate in a three session educational group that provides information on addiction and anger management. The goal is for you to be able to assess your relationship with substances and identify what needs to be changed.

The adolescent program focuses on the risk associated with substance use, the warning signs of addiction and alternative ways to cope with adolescence. Both of these programs can be a standalone service or a precursor to ongoing treatment. One thing that stood out to me about their adolescent services is their new program, The Vape Project. Vaping has become an increasing problem among teens, and this prevention program provides three sessions aimed at educating youth about vaping and juuling.

Project Parenting is another unique program that I like that Genesis Counseling offers. It’s an 8 week parenting skills program that provides knowledge to clients on warning signs of drug and alcohol use, family bonding, and managing behaviors. Parents or caregivers have the opportunity to get a private session with a counselor to ask any questions they may have at the end of the program.

An additional service that stands out is the Managing Medication in Recovery group. When taking medicine to help treat addiction, there can sometimes be a risk of becoming addicted to it. The sessions in this group will specifically address this issue and help clients to navigate this unique challenge.

Some of the attractions that Framingham has to offer include the Framingham History Center and the Callahan State Park. It’s centered near downtown, near the commons and just east of Farm Pond. It’s also just a half hour outside of Boston.
