About Gateway Homes

Gateway Homes operates in four different regions of Virginia. The Chesterfield office serves the central region. It’s also their main campus and provides residential treatment for mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders.

Residential Treatment for Mental Health and Substance Use

The treatment program includes crisis support, individual and group therapy and family counseling. I noticed they also provide court ordered treatment services. There are several programs on the Chesterfield campus.

The Supported Living Center provides psychiatric rehabilitation services, helping clients reduce their mental illness and substance use symptoms, develop healthy coping skills, and teach essential life skills. The goal of the Supported Living Center is to allow clients to live as independently as possible with a little disruption from their symptoms as possible. They offer skills training, education and activities each week.

Taking the Next Step With Supported Living Apartments

After residential treatment, clients have access to more independent living within the campus. I like that these apartments are staffed from 8am to 10pm and clients can reach out to the Supported Living Center for help overnight. After this program, clients can live in the community independently while still receiving weekly staff support to ensure things are going well with their symptoms and they are avoiding relapse.

Gateway Homes is located less than an hour way from Richmond. Finding activities to do in between your treatment sessions is an important part of learning how to have fun without substances. Some options you may consider include Some options you might enjoy in town include visiting the Science Museum of Virginia or checking out the Virginia State Capitol.
