Front Steps

Front Steps is a community intervention service designed to reduce homelessness and provide behavioral health services for adults in Austin, Texas. Addiction is one of the main behavioral health conditions treated here. 

Austin, Texas is not only the state capital but is also known for its relaxing yet quirky vibes. For recreational opportunities when you’re not in treatment, consider visiting Waterloo Park or Lady Bird Lake for the walking trails and hike and bike trails. Likewise, this area is known for its community resources including healthcare clinics, mental health organizations, and peer support groups spread across the city. 

Outpatient Support

Front Steps’ priority is reducing homelessness by connecting the citizens it helps with community resources. Part of this includes coordinating treatment with nearby facilities that offer more intensive care for substance use disorders (SUD). Although there are no residential treatment programs offered by Front Steps, the organization does offer outpatient services designed to help people achieve sobriety. 

Harm reduction is one of the core focal points, as is creating a relapse prevention plan that is founded in having a strong community support network. 

Serving as a Community Bridge

As a nonprofit, Front Steps works to help adults secure stable housing and to build critical life skills to facilitate their independence. This includes teaching life skills and helping people enroll in support groups for their recovery. Similarly, this organization helps people enroll in essential social services such as Medicaid, which can help them secure critical financial support to cover SUD treatment. 

As a nonprofit, Front Steps doesn’t charge clients and instead relies on grants, donations, and public funding.
