Freedom House is a nonprofit behavioral healthcare provider with various locations. Their Chapel Hill, North Carolina, site offers an inpatient crisis unit and outpatient services for substance use or mental health concerns. Their crisis unit has 16 beds to accommodate adults who need immediate help with a mental health or substance use emergency. This unit is the first step towards recovery and partners with local hospitals and law enforcement as an alternative option. Clients will become stable which may include going through the detox process or leveling out their medication. Staff will help clients make a plan for continued recovery.

You'll have a nursing assessment and psychiatric evaluation as well as peer and staff support groups. The crisis unit is open 24/7 every day of the year. They’ll monitor your vital signs and assess if you need further medical treatment.

The outpatient clinic provides a wide range of options to help people manage their behavioral health diagnosis. They support you to get the care you need for mental illness and substance abuse symptoms. Their team of mixed specialty professionals includes clinical therapists, nurses, peer support specialists, psychiatric nurse practitioners and physicians. I like that this gives you wraparound care to help you move forward on your recovery.

They also provide a walk-in clinic for evaluation and referrals as well as care planning. You have access to individual and group therapy as well as medication assisted treatment and med management. They’re equipped to offer DWI / DMV evaluations and treatments that comply with North Carolina's requirements.
