About First Step House

First Step House is a Joint Commission-accredited nonprofit treatment provider in Salt Lake City offering residential and outpatient programs for adult men with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. Founded in 1958, the 70-bed residential center specializes in serving veterans, individuals involved in the criminal justice system, and those experiencing homelessness.

First Step House delivers evidence-based care within a comprehensive model that integrates treatment, housing support, employment services, and long-term recovery management to help men build lives of meaning and purpose.

Residential Treatment for Men in Recovery

First Step House provides short-term and long-term residential treatment with thorough intake assessments to match each client to the appropriate level of care. I've found that the program includes 34 beds designated for veterans and offers specialized programming through the REACH initiative for high-risk individuals exiting the criminal justice system.

Residents also access anger management, shame resiliency, grief and loss classes, life-skills training, and medication-assisted treatment, with on-site medical care from registered nurses.
