Real Farm Experience Work Therapy
While here, you will participate in 12 Step therapy while participating in a community living environment. This facility is a working farm that gives you the opportunity to learn different valuable skills such as cooking, raising vegetables, pesticide control, greenhouse farming, retail experience and even vehicle inspections.
While going through therapy you are earning wages, which helps pay for your therapy, but they also plan to help you earn enough that when you leave (typically after 3 months), you will have enough money to get re-established in the community. I find it very interesting that you can work for your therapy, learn new skills, gain better habits and earn money to help you once you leave.
About the Farm
Located near Asheville, North Carolina, in the beautiful Pisgah Mountains, the farm is well known and supplies vegetable, plants and bedding gardens to five surrounding states. Asheville is home to The Biltmore House and the North Carolina Arboretum. Also, nearby the farm are beautiful hiking trails and waterfalls, including my favorite, Mouse Creek Falls, with a nice but cold swimming hole.
Amenities
Residential drug rehab provides the comforts of home with the therapeutic support needed to successfully recover. Benefits of an inpatient program include increased safety, a higher success rate, and the time and distance given to focus on recovery. Residential drug rehabs are often the preferred method of treatment, as they can be tailored to meet specific needs, offer focused therapeutic care, and provide the necessary tools to sustain recovery.
There are many pathways to recovery and some journeys take a more labor-intensive approach, by attending a farm-based drug rehab. Farm life has many parallels with recovery: it requires constant tending, nurturing, and creating the conditions necessary to thrive. The benefits of a farm program include learning new skills, building a recovery community, peer support, and contributing to a greater ecosystem.
