About Reston Mental Health

Northwest Center Fairfax County is on Cameron Glen Drive in Reston, Virginia. The center is an outpatient Addiction Medicine Clinic (AMC) providing medication assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder. The program treats adults 18 and over who reside in Fairfax County or the Cities of Falls Church and Fairfax. Their services include therapy and support services for co-occurring mental health diagnoses. Clients must be psychiatrically and medically stable to enter the program and need a recent AMC services assessment. Clients receiving services from other Community Service Board programs may ask for a referral to the AMC or add it as an additional service. The program accepts many types of private insurance and Medicaid.

Office Based Opioid Treatment in Reston, Virginia

Office based opioid treatment (OBOT) is for clients with a current or past opioid use disorder. Their treatment program includes peer support, MAT and case management plus they offer optional group and individual therapy. I like that clients with co-occurring mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression or bipolar disorder can receive treatment here.

The program is flexible so clients can choose between different treatment activities. Some people avoid treatment due to group therapy, so I think some clients will appreciate that there is no mandatory requirement to participate in group therapy. There are groups available, and the treatment team encourages people to get involved.

Three-Phase Opioid Treatment Program

The treatment program comprises three phases. The first phase is usually weekly treatment, and phase two is biweekly. For each phase, clients complete specific treatment activities before progressing in the program. The first two phases are a minimum of three months each. Clients can receive a certificate of completion when they finish phase two.

The third phase is the maintenance phase. Clients enter this phase when they have progressed in their recovery to a point where they can sustain sobriety with minimal treatment (usually one or two sessions per month). Peer recovery specialists and counselors support and assist clients with all phases of treatment.
