About Exodus House

In southern Hickory, North Carolina, you’ll find Exodus Homes, a faith based charitable organization that provides several social services and helpful resources to people with a history of incarceration or homelessness. This includes people who have struggled with drug and alcohol addiction.

Their mission is to give those who are facing addiction or reentering society a safe environment and the right tools with which to build towards a fulfilling future. They’re not set up to provide direct addiction treatment, but offer special support and supervision for those in the aftercare phase of their recovery.

A Structured Pathway to Independence

Supporting residents in developing the skills and strength to live independently is this program’s main theme. In the supportive housing units, residents are supervised to keep them accountable, and are also given many opportunities and classes to develop life and employment skills.

What I admire most about this program is that they’ve secured corporate partners that provide a stable source of work opportunities and a secure pipeline towards future employment. This program is also set up to allow residents to cover the costs of living in the residence by engaging in their work and vocational training programs.

Helping to Reconnect Families

Another one of their program’s features that I like is that they strive to help parents and families reconnect with their loved ones. One past resident wrote that the ministry she received at Exodus Homes helped her build a new life.
