About East County Mental Health

The East County Behavioral Health Center (ECBHC) is one of several similar community mental health centers run by San Diego’s Health and Human Services Agency. Located right next to the Broadway and Anza Street bus stop in El Cajon, California, they offer a range of outpatient services to adults struggling with mental health issues, including substance and alcohol addictions.

As a public care facility, they’re able to help anyone who’s eligible for Medi-Cal and have financial assistance programs for individuals who need extra help.

An Array of Treatment

If you’re taking your first steps on the road to recovery, they conduct screenings and assessments to see whether their services can meet your needs. If not, they’re able to offer a referral to an appropriate care program.

At the ECBHC, they have several treatment options they can use to give you the treatment that best fits your particular needs. In their adult program, they offer intensive outpatient treatment, standard outpatient counseling and extended recovery care. I noticed they’re also licensed to provide medication assisted treatment in the appropriate cases.

Connection to Social Services

What I like about the ECBHC is that they can help you access many helpful resources outside the scope of traditional substance use treatment. They can help you with any co-occurring conditions or separate diagnoses thanks to their expertise in broader mental health counseling.

The staff can also help manage or coordinate your care with case management and medication management. The facility also provides specialized services to help combat homelessness.

ECBHC is located near several public transport options and resources where you can relax. These include the El Cajon Branch Library and Wells Park.

Rational Behavior Therapy (RBT)

Therapists often use rational emotive behavioral therapy in California to treat addiction. The ABC (activating event, beliefs, consequences) framework is used to help participants identify irrational beliefs and reframe their thinking in healthier ways.

Levels of Care

Outpatient Rehab

When you choose outpatient rehab in California, you will meet with a counselor and attend support group meetings. The length of time in outpatient rehab varies by individual, based on their recovery needs.
