Downtown Women’s Center Haven House provides a structured recovery home for guests who have experienced substance abuse in Amarillo, Texas. They offer a clean, safe environment for women to continue their sobriety.

Dormitory-Style Living

Haven House is considered the entry point for women without children. It’s the first phase of a structured program that focuses on women getting and staying sober for seven to nine months.

We noted that women have requirements for living at Haven House. You must attend and graduate from the Cenikor Shelter Program’s drug and alcohol treatment, attend 12-step meetings, and find part-time employment. They also have mandatory group and individual counseling sessions to work on goals and any issues hindering recovery.

You’ll also have group house meetings where you learn to live and get along with others. Following the house rules, you’ll work toward relapse prevention strategies that help you after leaving treatment.

Community Focus for Recovery

One of the features I found is their program focuses on community. Although the program has rigorous constraints, the team wants you to develop relationships and healthy networks to support recovery efforts. They believe friendship, love, and hope help provide a better future for sobriety and that we need to hold each other accountable.

Guests must follow all the requirements set by Haven House before they are allowed to move to Abba House or Gratitude House, which provides the second phase of recovery. Abba House allows women to bring their children and includes efficiency-style apartments with more independence.
