The Alaska VA Healthcare System has a Substance Abuse Treatment Program with Intensive Outpatient, Standard Outpatient, and virtual options for a number of mental health services. They also offer medically managed detoxification services using methadone and buprenorphine when these are prescribed by a VA psychiatrist. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), addiction education and counseling, 12-Step peer support programming and relapse prevention education are provided.
Emergency mental health care is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at VA medical centers. The VA also uses cutting-edge technologies, including telehealth services offered through video connections, so that veterans can access care from the comfort of their own homes.
