About Devereux Massachusetts Integrated Treatment

Devereux Massachusetts Integrated Treatment in Rutland, Massachusetts provides specialized residential mental health and addiction treatment services to students. Specifically, care is available here to girls and young women aged 12 to 21.

A Residential Mental and Behavioral Health Program for Girls

Support here is available across a complete range of treatment settings, and includes an intake unit along with a community group home and a quaint cottage setting.

Residents can access care for various mental health and mood disorders, along with any concurrent behavioral issues they may be struggling with, like cutting and substance use disorders.

Drug rehab services are integrated into the program’s dialectical behavior therapy model for those who need it, and include relapse prevention groups, 12 step meetings, and participation in psychoeducation groups.

The aim of this program is to equip young women with the skills they need to effectively function independently, control their impulses, and regulate their emotional expression. They’re also taught how to identify substance abuse triggers to successfully prevent relapse.

Treatment Approaches Used Here

Residents can expect to engage in regular therapy sessions while also developing skills related to mindfulness practice, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. A new skill is introduced for every week of the program, and ultimately reinforced and coached throughout the week by staff.

Skills coaching also plays a part in reinforcing the adoption of these new skills, and validating residents’ experiences if they’re struggling with it.

Journaling and Space to Breathe

Diary cards are also part of the program and are completed once a day, with staff and residents reviewing them together as part of coaching. These reviews involve feedback, validation, praise, and coaching, which all get tied into ongoing therapy sessions.

The facility also features what it calls ‘chill out’ rooms in the cottage and intake unit. Here, girls can take time outs from emotionally tricky situations until they feel more regulated. The rooms have blankets, beanbags, and self soothing boxes to help them deal with distress.
