About Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health – Brandywine Programs
Devereux Brandywine School was a private school for children and youth who needed special programs to help them succeed in life. These special education programs worked with the child’s school and family to ensure the child’s ability to return to their local school.
Educational Strategies
Children attending the school were enrolled in a residential program or came during the day for schooling. Each student had an individualized educational plan (IEP) listing the goals that needed to be achieved before the student could return to their local school.
Students were part of a multi sensory educational strategy which combined traditional instruction with hands on learning, independent learning, and technology opportunities.
Qualifying children ages six to 18 were at risk for negative life occurrences because of mental disorders, substance use disorders, emotional disorders, or behavioral disorders. Individuals who develop a substance abuse issue at an early age are more at risk for criminal behavior, homelessness, and even death.
Services and Treatments
Services provided the children with private school education, acute care hospital services, outpatient services, and residential treatment based on the child’s needs. Children were treated through family involvement, functional behavior assessments, trauma informed care, and positive behavior support.
