About DePelchin Childrens Center
DePelchin Children's Center is a nonprofit child organization in Houston providing mental health services for children, adolescents, and families. The center offers trauma focused therapy, family counseling and support for at-risk youth facing substance abuse and behavioral challenges.
Founded in 1892, DePelchin brings over 130 years of experience serving vulnerable children and families with evidence-based, trauma-informed care integrated into foster care, adoption, and prevention services.
Mental Health Services for At-Risk Youth and Families
DePelchin provides individual and family counseling for children up to age 17, who are facing substance abuse, truancy, and behavioral issues, primarily through their STAR Program and community-based counseling program.
Mental health assessments screen for addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders, with services tailored to children involved with Child Protective Services and the welfare system.
DePelchin provides services in office settings, schools, homes and through telehealth to meet families where it's best for them.
Trauma-Focused Treatment and Residential Care
Clinicians at DePelchin are trained in play therapy techniques for children who have experienced emotional, situational, environmental or sexual trauma. I've read that this center also operates a residential treatment program for children and adolescents struggling with severe mental, emotional, or behavioral problems requiring intensive support.
Accessible and Affordable Care in Houston
DePelchin's main campus offers in-person and telehealth services.
Many counseling services are provided at no charge. However, the center also accepts BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, United Healthcare, Medicaid and self-pay options.
