Safe Center

Denver SAFE Center coordinates care needs from several departments, including the Denver Police and Children’s Advocacy Center. They perform evaluations to determine if child abuse and neglect are present, after which they coordinate care efforts to protect children and restore their safety. Trauma-Informed Medical Evaluations

The team is trained to work with children who have come from unsafe and traumatizing environments. They gently take children through the necessary physical examinations to evaluate for physical abuse, which includes x-rays, head-to-toe exams, and laboratory testing when necessary.

Referrals for Targeted Drug Treatment

Once children have gone through the initial health and safety assessments, Denver SAFE Center staff treat their immediate needs and stabilize their medical condition. If conditions warrant a stronger referral, the staff can recommend that the client goes to the team at Bernard F. Gipson Sr. Eastside Family Health Center.

They provide outpatient mental health and substance abuse counseling for children and adults. The staff uses a trauma-informed approach to keep children as comfortable throughout treatment as possible. I like that their treatment goal is to help children develop self-care habits and restore their social and emotional wellness.
