About Day One Community Based Services

In Biddeford, Maine, you’ll find Day One. This is an addiction treatment and mental healthcare resource for youth and adults. Depending on their age and needs, clients can access residential and outpatient treatment here.

Supporting Maine Youth for More Than 50 Years

This organization has been there for Maine’s youth and families for over five decades, offering programs that meet them where they are. They’re the only residential addiction treatment program for youth in the state, and families come from all over to access care.

The residential treatment program is for teens aged 13 through 18. I noticed that staff view treatment through a harm reduction lens. A former client highlighted the support and structure provided by the residential program. I like the harm reduction model because it relieves some of the pressure to quit using immediately, and it can feel less judgmental while still providing a solid framework for recovery.

When Outpatient Treatment Makes More Sense

Not every client needs the level of care provided in a residential treatment program. That’s when outpatient treatment is an excellent option. There’s still structure but appointments happen during hours that don’t interfere with school or work.

Most clients participate in a blend of individual counseling and group therapy sessions. To make accessing care even easier, you may be able to participate through telehealth.

Medication Assisted Recovery for Adults

The Medication for Opioid Use Disorders (MOUD) program is for older adolescents and adult clients. I appreciate that in addition to the medications, clients also participate in therapeutic recovery groups because that’s often where the most healing happens.

There’s something special about being surrounded by peers who understand what you’re facing because they’ve been there, too.

Whether you’re a teen or an adult, Day One has an addiction recovery program designed to meet your unique needs. For outpatient clients, there are two places to get coffee after sessions, and both are right around the corner.

Amenities

Day School

Addiction treatment programs provide an opportunity to get your life back on track with access to school classes or college courses. Whether you want to finish your GED or go back to school to learn a new trade, facilities often enlist tutors and teachers who are certified or licensed by the state to oversee self-study or distance-learning education.

Adventure Therapy

Hiking is a great way to relieve stress, get perspective, navigate challenges, connect with nature, and improve your health - all essential components of sustaining long-term recovery. Studies also show that the body releases endorphins during physical activities like hiking. These endorphins improve mood and act as a natural pain reliever.

Private Rehab

Private drug rehab provides a comfortable, secure environment that allows you to focus on doing the work to get your life back on track. Benefits include a higher staff-to-client ratio, increased one-on-one time with therapists and healthcare providers, private rooms for clients, and customized forms of therapy.

Private Transportation

Transportation services are designed to ensure your addiction treatment begins and ends successfully by offering free transportation to the rehab facility, to and from your appointments during rehab, and back home upon program completion.

Rec Room & Activities

Recreational therapy uniquely combines therapeutic interventions with an activity, like horse-riding, hiking, wilderness therapy, basketball, tennis, or a full workout. Benefits of recreational therapy include providing a healthy way to work through the emotions of recovery, learning to build and maintain relationships, improving communication skills, and building self-esteem.

River View

Drug and alcohol rehabs with a river view can help to decrease anxiety, relieve depression, and improve concentration. Being in nature can even provide health benefits for some people, including lowering blood pressure.

Wilderness Setting

Wilderness rehab programs offer all the benefits of a traditional drug rehab, but with the added benefits of outdoor adventure. Venture out into the forest to learn new skills, explore the beauty of nature, and relieve stress. Engaging in wilderness activities is a great way to gain self-discovery and release negative emotions.

Yoga Studio

Treatment centers with a yoga studio offer a special form of holistic therapy during the recovery process. Yoga boosts mindfulness, a sense of calm, and healthy reflection during drug rehab via breathing exercises, stretching, and a progression of specific postures.
