About Crittenton Services, Inc.

In the rolling hills of Wheeling, West Virginia, is Crittenton Services. This addiction treatment center offers care to some of the state’s most underserved populations. Residential clients are referred to the program from the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Services (WV DHHR) who are in state custody due to abuse, neglect, abandonment, mental health challenges, or substance abuse.

A Focus on Young Women and Families

With more than 125 years of experience, this facility focuses on helping adolescent girls who are pregnant or parenting through inpatient and outpatient treatment programs. It is the only licensed residential program of its kind in the state. Young mothers attend school and receive parenting education and support. Daycare is available for their children.

Crittenton offers a thoughtful and trauma-informed approach to inpatient residential care for teenage girls. Girls live in a safe, supportive environment (either dorm-like rooms or supervised on-site houses) where staff aren’t just clinicians. They are mentors and advocates who often become like family.

Community-Based Outpatient Programs

Through Wellspring Family Services, Crittendon also provides outpatient counseling to children and adults across West Virginia. These services address a wide range of behavioral health issues, including substance abuse, emotional problems, and family and relationship issues.  Clients can access counseling remotely, and at locations across the state—a plus for families who need flexibility or ongoing support after residential care.

Positive Feedback From Past Clients

Client feedback is overwhelmingly positive. One mother said her daughter came home “a changed young woman.” Others talk about the genuine care from staff and how the program has been “a blessing” for those trying to restart their lives. People seem to appreciate the nonjudgmental atmosphere and how the staff treat everyone with respect, which is not always a given in addiction treatment.
