About Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs

The Veterans Affairs Residential Facility offers those who served our nation a chance to rebuild their lives in a supportive community setting. The facility is located on West Street in Rocky Hill, Connecticut, right next to the Returned Soldier Monument and just a two-minute walk south of the Academy Hall Museum. It’s also a little over two miles northwest of the scenic Charter Oak Landing and north of Rocky Hill Ferry Park.

It is one of two residential programs operated by the Connecticut State Department of Veterans Affairs in the Rocky Hill Campus as part of a broader commitment to supporting veterans’ well-being. I noticed that they accept Medicaid and Medicare, which helps reduce financial barriers and ensures more Veterans can access the support and stability they’ve earned. Residents enjoy 24/7 support from supportive care personnel who guide them through every step of the healing journey.

Whole-Person Care For Long-Term Success

The Residential Facility equips veterans with the skills and resources needed to regain stability via whole-person care that supports physical, emotional and psychosocial wellbeing. They achieve this via coordinated collaboration with government agencies, including the Department of Labor, Connecticut Veterans Legal Center and the Department of Social Services.

Services include educational support, vocational rehab or job readiness training and assistance in finding meaningful employment that matches your skills. You’ll receive nutritional support and transportation assistance to help you stay engaged in your recovery. They even offer spiritual or religious services to help you find meaning in your struggles.

Therapeutic Support For Healing and Growth

The Rocky Hill Campus also houses the Veterans Recovery Center (VRC) run by Connecticut DMHAS. So residents and community veterans can seamlessly receive focused care via VRC’s four-week outpatient therapy to build recovery skills needed for long-term success.

Tailored support for opioid-dependent veterans may include medication-assisted treatment to ease painful withdrawal symptoms and reduce relapse risk. Psychiatric support is provided when clinically necessary to help manage co-occurring mental health conditions and promote emotional stability throughout recovery. Residents also have access to medical services onsite to support overall wellness.
