Urgent psychiatric care at the Jane Westin Center happens in one same-day visit. The psychiatric walk-in center in downtown San Diego sees adults 18 and older with a serious mental illness, including people with a co-occurring substance use condition.
That visit covers screening and assessment, a psychiatric evaluation, medication services and a discharge plan. Residential care is not offered at this center.
Walk-In Hours and Payment
Walk-in hours run Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and you are screened and triaged in order of urgency and need. Who gets in depends on the Specialty Mental Health Services criteria.
The center accepts Medi-Cal, dual Medicare and Medi-Cal coverage, private pay or no insurance at all. People who are Medi-Cal-eligible are accepted too.
Nobody is turned away because they can’t pay. The County of San Diego funds the program through its Behavioral Health Services. That means you can plan the visit without settling the coverage question first.
Jane Westin Center covers the Central and North Central regions of San Diego County, along with the East and South. It has been open since 1977.
