About Community Counseling Services
Community Counseling Services is a behavioral health organization in Huron, South Dakota. Huron is a small town two hours outside of Pierre and Sioux Falls. The mission of Community Counseling Services is to help individuals and families within the community become healthier. Along with mental health and substance use disorder treatment, they offer child development services and services specifically for at risk youth and families.
Substance abuse counselors will help you determine the level of care suited to your needs and use evidence based approaches to treat you. The facility offers outpatient and intensive outpatient treatment. These programs typically require meeting in group and individual sessions multiple times a week for several hours.
Your counselor can help you identify the cause of your addiction and how to prevent yourself from relapsing. The types of therapeutic approaches used include moral recognition therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy. Additionally, a 12 hour DUI program and a drug court are also available for individuals who’ve been charged with substance related crimes.
Another program available to the residents of Beadle County is the Strategic Prevention Framework program. SPF provides these services to individuals not identified as in need of substance use disorder treatment. The goal is to help communities implement effective alcohol and drug prevention programs, practices and policies. They also monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the programs.
One service I like that Community Counseling Services provides is the Bradfield Leary Center Apartments. Huron citizens participating in CCS substance use or mental health treatment are able to receive supportive housing if needed. The organization offers one bed apartments with shared bathrooms and a full one bedroom apartment.
Additional programs at CCS include the Impact Program, the System of Care Program, and the Care Program. The Impact Program is a mobile community treatment service that helps individuals struggling with mental illness take care of basic needs such as taking medications and managing daily responsibilities.

Recreational therapy uniquely combines therapeutic interventions with an activity, like horse-riding, hiking, wilderness therapy, basketball, tennis, or a full workout. Benefits of recreational therapy include providing a healthy way to work through the emotions of recovery, learning to build and maintain relationships, improving communication skills, and building self-esteem.
Yoga and meditation are great activities to support your recovery process during alcohol or drug rehab. These therapies have been around for centuries, and they are an effective way to improve well-being. In order to maintain a sense of autonomy, many private rehab facilities offer clients the ability to choose their own private rooms. The privacy and personal space ensure that the recovery process is as comfortable as possible.
