Coastal Behavioral Healthcare Compass Center

The Compass Center was a residential addiction treatment center for adolescents in Punta Gorda, Florida. It was operated by Coastal Behavioral Healthcare. This facility is now closed.

Coastal Behavioral Healthcare accepted insurance plans, which may have included Medicaid and CHIP. They also had a sliding fee scale for those who qualified.

Residential Treatment for Teens in Punta Gorda

Treatment was offered to teens ages 13 to 17 who had substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health concerns. The campus was available to teens throughout southwestern Florida.

They delivered individual, group and family therapy as well as grade-appropriate education services to help youth keep up in school. I appreciate that the Compass Center also provided vocational training for older teens to help them prepare for the workforce.

Their addiction treatment helped youth find the root causes for substance use and address them, which included mental health treatment. Residents also identified their triggers and created healthy coping mechanisms, which allowed them to create strong relapse prevention strategies.

What stands out to me is that the program focused on helping youth take personal responsibility for their actions, be honest and truthful and prioritize learning. They also emphasized self reliance and community involvement as well as a strong work ethic.

When teens completed the program, youth and their families were connected with outpatient care, community resources and other support services. These were designed to help the teen maintain long-term recovery and develop into an independent and productive adult.
