About Claire House

Claire House is a long term residential program for women and their dependent children in Bayou Vista, Louisiana. The facility comprises 12 beds for women and 24 beds for their children aged at most 10 years.

I think it’s special that these women get to live with their children in the residence as they navigate recovery. One reason fewer women than men seek substance use treatment is fearing they don’t have a safe place for their children. Claire House creates a stable environment for kids to thrive while their moms work on building a better future. Keeping the family together helps moms stay motivated in recovery and can strengthen their bonds as they navigate healing together.

Long Term Residential Recovery for TANF-eligible Women

Claire House strictly serves TANF-eligible women with dependent children. These women are currently struggling with substance use or have a history of use and are at risk for relapse. TANF refers to women who qualify for government help based on their income and family situation. Claire House offers these moms a chance to develop parenting skills, find stability, and grow personally. Kids get to stay with their moms so families can heal together.

Trauma Informed Residential Care

The program involves the intensive and transition phase. Each last six months. The intensive phase focuses on structured support and addressing your immediate recovery needs. During this phase, you’ll attend intensive group and individual therapy to build strong coping skills that foster relapse prevention.

Sessions may draw from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR). Both models equip you with tools for coping with stress, triggers, and life challenges. You’ll also attend relapse prevention and drug education classes. Family therapy is also available as are the 12 Steps.

Recreational Activities for Holistic Healing

It’s not all about intensive therapeutic activities, though. The program incorporates exercise and recreational activities so that you can relax. Lake Palourde and Atchafalaya Basin offer recreation from boating and fishing to hiking trails. The Bayou Vista Recreation Park Complex is also nearby with skate parks and baseball fields to tennis courts and play parks. The local library is also next door.

This intensive phase helps you apply what you’ve learned in real world settings. This phase prepares you to live independently and manage responsibilities as you transition to life beyond the program.

Tailored Programming for Children

The facility offers programming to support your children. They use activities that are just right for their age. This might include storytelling to boost language skills or outdoor play to develop motor skills. They could also have group games that teach teamwork and help with emotional development.

Recovery in Serene Bayou Vista

The facility is situated along the Atchafalaya River in Bayou Vista within St. Mary Parish. It’s just two miles north of Morgan City. The area is known for its natural beauty including bayous, wetlands and wildlife.

There are no direct public transportation options within Bayou Vista. However, St. Mary Parish Transit offers service to nearby cities. You can access the facility via the US-90.
