About Christian Discipleship Center

Christian Discipleship Center is a faith based residential treatment program for people struggling with substance use disorders that is located in Cortez, Colorado. This facility serves men in the indigenous community throughout this region and incorporates Christian teachings as a core base for the programming.

Cortez is part of the Golden Circle which is located in the Four Corners region (Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona). It is home to countless national parks renowned for their natural beauty thanks to the mountains and plateaus across the area. You can visit Mesa Verde National Park which is famous for Balcony House and other early Indigenous cliff dwellings. Likewise San Juan National Forest and Ute Mountain Reservation are also nearby.

Culturally Sensitive Programs

I found that a key feature of the SUD treatment offered at Christian Discipleship Center is that it is rooted in faith based principles but also incorporates culturally sensitive methods. This includes integrating Native traditions into the curriculum that are respectful of the many Indigenous groups present in the American Southwest.

The facility also relies on a non denominational approach to Christian teachings, which can make this easier for many to manage.

A Calming Respite

If you’ve been to the American Southwest, you know that the terrain is naturally soothing. Christian Discipleship Center capitalizes on this with a campus that is nestled within the mountains in Cortez. I like that the facility features a dormitory style residence hall with common spaces for classrooms, dining halls, and the worship area.

Christian Discipleship Center operates as a nonprofit and does not require payment or insurance from participants. However, they do accept donations and receive funding from grants and mission organizations.
