About Christian Discipleship Center
Christian Discipleship Center was a drug and alcohol recovery program in Cortez, Colorado, near the Ute and Navajo reservations. This was a faith based, Bible based ministry and residential treatment program for Native American Christians with substance use disorders. This program lasted 90 days and treated hundreds of Native American Christians.
The center, which closed in 2022, is planning to open a new nine month Guaranteed Attendance program (GAP) for youth when they establish funding and staff. It struck me that the nonprofit program didn’t require insurance or payment from the participants.
Culturally Sensitive Addiction Treatment
The center was on a six-acre, wooded campus in Cortez, which is part of the Golden Circle in the Four Corners region, where Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah meet. I think participants appreciated the culturally sensitive programs designed specifically for Native American Christians. The campus was conveniently located near two reservations.
A Place of Safety
Clients described the center as a refuge and a place of safety. The program was known for providing spiritual healing and renewal away from temptation, and many clients reported that it helped them turn their lives around. The program partnered with nearby churches and had special Native guest speakers.
