About Cherry Hospital
Cherry Hospital is one of the oldest mental healthcare facilities in North Carolina, with a history of providing acute care dating back to 1880. Situated near the Little River, west of Goldsboro, North Carolina, it’s one of three state psychiatric hospitals and serves individuals from the state’s eastern counties.
What I like about this facility is that admission only requires an individual to be eligible for treatment, regardless of financial means or insurance coverage. However, their services are designed for individuals with severe struggles. This includes those with substance use struggles and diagnosed mental illness, those for whom less restrictive or intensive programs haven’t worked, and those who are dangerous to themselves and others.
They primarily serve people who are referred by law enforcement, medical providers or other sources rather than voluntary self-referrals.
Comprehensive Residential Treatments for All Ages
They’re able to provide age appropriate services to children, adolescents, and adults, and also have the capacity to help individuals with hearing disabilities. They offer 24 hour access to staff and a comprehensive set of services to meet all their patients’ needs.
They provide psychiatric, psychological, and medical treatments, and education for children and teens receiving care. For these patients, they also prioritize having their families involved during treatment.
Ensuring Patients’ Rights
Another outstanding part of this organization is its dedicated human rights committee. This protects the rights of all patients, which is especially important for those who come to the hospital by way of involuntary admission.
