About Changes Place Freeport

Located a half hour outside of Rockford, Changes Place was an outpatient substance use disorder treatment facility in Freeport, Illinois. They provided both outpatient and intensive outpatient treatment services to help clients with recovering from their addiction. The facility was staffed with certified counselors and was licensed by the Illinois Department of Human Services division. The Freeport site has since closed.

The staff members at Changes Place would start clients with an assessment to determine the full nature of a client’s drug or alcohol use. After an interview and objective tests, individuals would be recommended to an intervention or treatment service. The facility’s outpatient and intensive outpatient treatment focused on helping individuals address the issues in their lives that caused their substance use disorder.

With not being far from Rockford, in between treatment sessions, you could enjoy visiting attractions like the Anderson Japanese Gardens and the Discovery Center Museum.

Another good service the facility offered was drug and alcohol remedial education. Clients would be educated on facts about the effects of drugs and alcohol on the user and families. Staff members would also provide information on the symptoms of a substance use disorder, intervention treatments, and community resources that can help.

Substances can sometimes affect clients differently based on gender. I like that the facility provided gender specific counseling services to address the unique challenges that each gender faces which might affect their treatment outcome.

One specialized service offered at Changes Place was their anger management service. The facility understood that anger can be strongly correlated with substance use disorders.

Clients would receive help with identifying their triggers and learn problem solving skills and conflict management to help manage their anger. Individuals would also be treated with cognitive restructuring interventions and relaxation interventions.

One other unique thing about this facility was the early intervention service. Staff members would explore the client’s current substance use and help them establish coping skills to avoid developing substance related problems.

Even though this location is closed, Changes Place still has a center in Loves Park that can help you. There are also other facilities nearby.
