About Neighborhood Services Center
In the 1850s and 1860s, Oxford, Pennsylvania, was a hub for candy and confectionery businesses. Today, this small city between Philadelphia and Baltimore, Maryland, has modern homes, small businesses and a distinct Amish presence. It’s also where you’ll find the Neighborhood Services Center (NSC), which provides basic needs assistance and case management services.
Most of the services at the Center are free. They share their facility with other organizations that offer outpatient treatment for mental health and substance use, and those programs may accept health insurance for their services.
Meeting Basic Needs in Southern Chester County
The primary work of the Neighborhood Services Center is providing a food pantry and basic needs assistance to local residents. They have canned goods, personal care items, cleaning supplies and non perishable items available at the food bank.
For pre-screened individuals and families who are eligible for aid based on income, the NSC furnishes financial assistance for housing, health care and utilities. The payments are made directly to the service provider. One service that caught my attention was case management.
Case managers at NSC work with individuals and families to understand their needs and refer them to relevant community resources. The case managers also follow up to ensure you get the care you need. This may include medical care, treatment for mental health or substance use disorders, housing assistance and other services.
Additional Organizations Providing Services at NSC
I like that NSC shares its space with other organizations that provide helpful services, which makes it easy for you to access multiple kinds of support. For example, Family Service of Chester County uses this location as its Oxford office.
They provide counseling services as well as Project ONE, which helps HIV positive individuals in Chester County get medical care, housing and treatment for mental health and substance use disorders. Having a range of services available in one place helps make NSC a very helpful resource in the community.
