About Catholic Human Services

Catholic Human Services is a comprehensive behavioral health care provider offering mental health and community bridge services to residents of North Michigan with a satellite location in Houghton Lake. While this is a Catholic organization, their services are non-denominational so people of all faiths can access services and participate in religious components.

While there are several CHS locations across northern Michigan, the Houghton Lake location has plenty of outdoor activities nearby such as Houghton Lake, Pineview Highlands Golf Course, and North Higgins Lake State Park which can aid in green therapy recovery.

Personalized Recovery Treatment

I appreciate that CHS focuses on a personalized recovery program. This means that you can undergo assessments to see which services would be most beneficial for your needs. Likewise, I like that CHS can provide referrals if you need something more intensive than they offer.

Specifically, referrals are designed to help clients in active addiction connect with medication assisted treatment (MAT) services to safely detox and maintain a stable sobriety. Meanwhile, you can still access counseling services through CHS on an outpatient basis.

Additionally, this network does provide emergency post overdose response which is designed for people who have recently suffered an overdose.

Essential Counseling Support

Sobriety requires counseling to be reinforced and maintained. At CHS, this includes access to individual and group therapy, family counseling, and peer support groups. You can also take advantage of care coordination support which ensures you’re connected with the proper services.

Community Bridge Care for Sustainable Sobriety

CHS is committed to helping you maintain your sobriety, which is why their aftercare support is so essential. Along with access to client assistance funds to offset counseling expenses, CHS works to connect you with community services such as securing housing, employment assistance and more.

CHS accepts health insurance along with providing a sliding fee scale and financial aid for people with demonstrated need.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

During cognitive behavioral therapy in Michigan, participants do more than talk with their therapists. This is an engaging, hands-on approach that requires active participation. Individuals work with their therapist to change their thought and behavior patterns to overcome addiction.

Men's Rehab

During men’s rehab in Michigan, individuals spend a significant amount of time in therapy. This gender-specific treatment gives men the tools they need to cope with stress and live without drugs and alcohol.

Levels of Care

Outpatient Rehab

Outpatient rehab in Michigan is tailored to each person’s recovery journey. This treatment usually involves several hours of therapy sessions each week, along with attendance at support group meetings. However, the timeline varies from a few weeks, to months, to years, based on your needs.

Dual Diagnosis & Mental Health

A dual diagnosis treatment center in Michigan allows you to get treatment for substance abuse and mental health disorders at the same time. This is critical, because untreated mental health disorders often lead to relapse and poor recovery outcomes.
