Catholic Human Services provides services to all individuals regardless of faith, income or circumstance. They have 14 locations throughout Northern Michigan, including this center in Alpena, and more than 50 years of experience. They provide both family and individual counseling services.
They have an alcohol and drug recovery program in an outpatient setting. This is for adults, adolescents and families dealing with substance use. I like that their services compliment 12 step programs and other recovery pathways.
Catholic Human Services provides a holistic treatment approach that understands that mind, body and spirit as parts of a healthy life. I appreciate that they first listen and learn from each client and then take that information to create a personalized recovery program using proven treatment methods.
They bill private health insurance providers directly whenever possible and their fees are charged on a sliding scale based on income. They have client assistance funds thanks to their generous donors that can be used to help cover the cost of treatment for those who need it. I think it's great that they try to reduce the barriers that some people may face to getting the treatment they need.
One of the features that I like best about Catholic Human Services is that they provide services in person as well as virtually. You can meet with your counselor individually or in a group therapy and they also offer family counseling sessions. Referrals for medication assisted treatment (MAT) are also an option.
I'm impressed by their recovery coach services. Alpena County residents will be contacted within 72 hours by a member of the wellness team. they will get you access to harm reduction supplies, connect you to local resources and help you reduce barriers to treatment and recovery.
