About Catholic Charities West Michigan Gods Kitchen

Catholic Charities West Michigan (CCWM) is a nonprofit community outreach program under the Diocese of Grand Rapids that provides a comprehensive range of services to the greater West Michigan region. One of their many programs offered includes God’s Kitchen, which provides free meals to those in need in the community. While God’s Kitchen is not part of CCWM’s counseling services, substance use disorder treatment is one of the programs offered in their network.

God’s Kitchen Serves the Community

I was impressed that God’s Kitchen served over 70,000 meals to the local community in the previous year. This facility is also a food pantry, working to address food insecurity. More importantly, this food kitchen is open to all, walk-ins are welcome, and no qualifiers or questions are asked of anyone who visits the space.

An Emphasis on Aftercare

One of the biggest issues people face when they achieve sobriety is maintaining that milestone. CCWM understands this issue, which is why I like that this organization prioritizes aftercare. From providing support resources to offering counseling such as accountability partners, CCWM strives to achieve those goals.

Treatment Beyond Addiction

Another key feature to CCWM’s counseling services is that the organization provides care for more than just substance abuse. For example, domestic violence with intervention counseling, as well as family, individual, and children’s counseling are all available. Likewise, licensed clinicians are experienced with managing other behavioral health issues such as ADHD, anxiety, and depression.

Substance abuse treatments are available in both CCWM’s Muskegon and Kent County locations. CCWM accepts many insurances, and Medicaid, and offers a sliding-scale fee based on demonstrated need.

Recreational therapy uniquely combines therapeutic interventions with an activity, like horse-riding, hiking, wilderness therapy, basketball, tennis, or a full workout. Meditation Room

Yoga and meditation are great activities to support your recovery process during alcohol or drug rehab. These therapies have been around for centuries, and they are an effective way to improve well-being. Combining addiction treatment, yoga, and meditation can reduce cravings, improve sleep, relieve anxiety and depression, provide stress relief, promote relaxation, support emotional healing, and improve energy levels.

Private Rooms

In order to maintain a sense of autonomy, many private rehab facilities offer clients the ability to choose their own private rooms. The privacy and personal space ensure that the recovery process is as comfortable as possible.
