About Catholic Charities

Catholic Charities of Shiawassee County provide counseling, prevention, and education programs for adults, teens, and kids who are impacted by substance use disorder. They're based in semi rural Owosso, Michigan. You'll find 'em located close by the Shiawassee River. Their prevention and education programs are free and provided throughout the community. This can be in people's homes, churches, and schools.

Here are some of their more popular programs. Their Systematic Training for Effective Parenting is a course that lasts seven weeks. It helps parents connect and engage with their children. It’s designed to reduce the risk of mental health and substance use disorders.

The life skills school program targets psychological factors that promote risky behavior, such as substance use that leads to addiction. The education includes information on self-improvement, peer pressure, and making good decisions. The education workshops focus on educating teens ages 14 and up about alcohol, tobacco, and prescription drugs. They also help kids learn about peer pressure.

You can also engage in their counseling program that's available for children, adolescents, adults, and families who are experiencing substance use disorders and addiction. Their counselors are available upon request.

They also offer substance use assessments that are confidential and result in treatment recommendations by the experienced clinical staff. You can also engage in a peer recovery program to work with a peer coach who has similar life experiences and understands what you're going through.

There are also food pantries that provide low-income folks with food and basic necessities. This can include linens and clothing. That way, you’ll have less stress and have a healthier lifestyle.

They understand that financial concerns may keep you from seeking care, so they help assist with a one-on-one payment plan and work with various insurance providers and agencies to ensure that you receive the care you need.
