About Catholic Charities
Catholic Charities RESTART for Adolescents is a drug and alcohol rehab and alternative school located in Goshen, New York. They treat and educate teens who have severe substance use disorder (SUD) or alcohol use disorder. The school is run by Orange-Ulster BOCES and Catholic Charities.
Catholic Charities' mission is to serve people with low incomes. Their services are either free or offered on a sliding fee scale based on what you can afford. Many of their clients are homeless.
Coordinating with Families and Schools
Kids must have the approval of their parents and their school district to attend this program. All people who are treated in a facility run by Catholic Charities are provided with psychiatric and physical assessments. The teen will always be given a full panel of drug tests.
I like the fact that families and teens themselves are always given a say in their treatment. Family therapy sessions are a regular occurrence for kids in this program.
Pairing Education with Addiction Treatment
Teens in the program will take regular high school classes. They will also have group and individual therapy. The therapy will focus on relapse prevention. Kids who have substance use issues are often treated with evidence-based therapy that rewards sober behaviors and redirects unhelpful behavior.
I like the fact that they teach the kids how to assess their own feelings and behaviors. I also think their self-esteem training is helpful because people can be so impressionable when they are in their teens. The counselors teach life skills to prepare kids for a sober adult life after they graduate.
