CASCADE Durham (which stands for courage, support, changing attitudes, and environments) is a nonprofit addiction treatment program for expecting mothers and their children and is part of the Community Alternatives, Inc organization. Their addiction treatment services support women by interrupting the cycle of addiction, decreasing substance use and related conditions and morbidities, and improving birth outcomes. Through promoting mothers' physical and mental health, CASCADE offers a strengths based program that includes individual and group counseling, parenting skills, relapse prevention, and peer support.
Priority admission is given to pregnant women using drugs intravenously, pregnant women with substance use disorder, women using drugs intravenously, and anyone else with substance use disorders. CASCADE Durham has received a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. They accept Medicaid, Military insurance, self pay, and private insurance. Financial aid and funding is also available.
